Joey “Wiseone” MArtinez

Joey’s artwork can be found in Japan, Brazil, Nicaragua and The Netherlands, a long way from the Crayola masterpieces on family walls. Hispanic heritage is as vital to Joey’s artwork as it is to the history of Lubbock. Many of his pieces are Aztec-inspired with odes to Mexican culture like Día de los Muertos and heroes like Frida Kahlo. He finishes most of his commissions with an inspiring quote, which has given him the nickname, “Wiseone.”

On display at The Wallace until March 31, 2019
