Honoring a Legend in the Music Industry

Dear Friends, Family, Artists, and Musicians,

Many of you know Jerry Tubb as the founder and owner of Terra Nova Mastering in Austin Texas since 1990.  Jerry is an audio mastering engineer with credits on thousands of projects - digital and analog audio formats for CD, TV, radio, vinyl, DVD, movies, audiobooks, streaming, etc.  He is also widely known as a seasoned jazz guitarist, with a lifetime resume of teaching, performing, and producing, with a deep, natural knowledge of music that he has used to reach his career goals of perfecting audio for all media.  What you may not know is that Jerry has deep family roots in Levelland, Texas. Jerry’s grandfather G H (Howard) and his wife Lizzie moved to Levelland in 1921, building the second home ever built there. His Grandmother (Lizzie) met with the other ladies of the town to pick a name for the town. In the meeting, it was said, “It is really level (flat) land here. We could name it Level land.” Jerry’s Dad, Nathan Tubb, was one of the founders of South Plains College in Levelland (1958), serving as the first Registrar. He also pushed for and succeeded in establishing a Blue Grass Music Department, which has grown into its world-renowned commercial and creative arts music program, attracting musicians from all over the world.

Jerry’s love for music grew out of this environment and his natural talent. Jerry started recording as early as junior high in the 60’s, with a tape recorder he received as a gift from his brother. Moving on to multitrack recording, overdubbing & layering in high school. This information is relevant because the 1928 historic Wallace Theatre in Levelland is being renovated and restored to become a beautiful, intimate live-performance venue. The kind that musicians truly love to play in. It has grand murals on the walls and will feature incredible acoustics. This theatre is special because it will have the ability to create unforgettable memories for audiences and performers alike.

Jerry grew up going to the Wallace Theater. He has been an avid supporter of the project and the vision for the great performance venue it will be. Jerry has been very humble about the work that he has done and the impact he has made in the world by helping musicians share their stories, hearts, and talents in the way they intend for it to be heard. The world knows and loves the musicians they see on stage, but much credit is due to those who work behind the scenes.

With that thought in mind, the time has come to name the auditorium of the Wallace Theater. The inspiring story of the venue itself needs a name that will continue to inspire people as they walk into the main hall, a name that tells a story of dedication, creativity, hard work, and talent to inspire musicians who would play on the stage. Also, someone with a name that is not only greatly respected in the music industry but in the local community as well.

We cannot think of a better way to honor one of our own as well as an individual who is highly respected for his outstanding contributions to the music industry.  To do this we need your help. We need to raise the final funds to complete the auditorium renovations and establish an endowment that will be used to provide paid internships for sound technology students and pay performers.

Would you like to be a part of this project? If so, we would like to ask you to consider making a lead gift to support the building. Each gift will receive a special token to commemorate your support of this venue.  A plaque will be placed by the entrance of the auditorium acknowledging that the Jerry Tubb Auditorium was named in his honor by his loving family, friends, and artists who love and appreciate his impact on music and the world. The Wallace Theater is a 501c3 non-profit organization.  All contributions are tax-deductible. To make your contribution please use the enclosed card, visit the website, or contact Alycyn Keeling, Executive Director at 806-789-9097.
